Home THE RADNOR GARDENS WORKING PARTY

What do YOU think should be the priorities for improvements in
RADNOR GARDENS ?

The EGM of the Friends of Radnor Gardens, held last November, established opposition to some features of the proposals which had been drawn up for implementation with the help of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant. This opposition was mainly to the proposed embankment, with covering over of the rockery, and the re-siting of the gazebo/bathhouse.

As a result, further work and funding allocation has been halted for the time being.by the Arcadia executive committee and the Council.

They have agreed to consider revising the plans to take account of the opinions and priorities suggested by local residents, assuming some reasonable concensus can be reached.

Your views will be discussed by the Radnor Gardens Working Party at its next meeting, to be held on Thursday March 9 th . The Working Party comprises representatives of The Friends of Radnor Gardens, Strawberry Hill Bowls Club, Strawberry Hill Residents Association, Arcadia executive committee, the Borough Council, Parks & Open Spaces department and Thames Landscape Strategy. Now the Working Party is endeavouring to take the whole project forward again in a way which will please most residents and also fit Arcadia criteria. Interested local residents have been discussing various aspects of the proposals for many months, so we expect you will not find this gives you too short notice to tell us of your views.

Let's assume we are starting afresh. What would YOU like to see happen?

We all know there is a dire and urgent need to repair the cracks in the walls. This is a Council responsibility. Apart from that, what would be your top three priorities for action? Here are some of the main elements which have been considered before. Please pick from here, or simply let us know what kind of improvement or innovation you have in mind.

•  Pathway refurbishment
•  River bank maintenance
•  New tree planting – where?
•  Refurbishment/development of buildings (bowls club etc.)
•  Grounds maintenance
•  Pontoon installation
•  Millennium point
•  Public lavatories
•  Café
•  Lighting/security

Please let us have your views, in writing, by mail or email to the address below – to ensure they are heard by the Working Party at their next meeting, we need to hear from you by Monday, March 6 th . Please provide your name and full contact details (we may need to ask you to elaborate).

We will be asking your opinion at other times in the future, as plans are developed, but in the meantime please keep an eye on the website of The Friends of Radnor Gardens and local noticeboards – we will try to keep you up-to-date with our progress.
